Aerodynamic Sound Production in Shear Flows – Analytic Source Identification and Numerical Validation

Challenge

Aerodynamic sound generation is a major subject of fluid dynamics, with applications
in wide areas of engineering problems such as aircraft jet engines, naval and automotive applications. The field of application extends to geophysical (e.g., atmospheric turbulence and dynamics) and astrophysical (e.g., helio- and astroseismology – pressure oscillations in the sun and stars) context. Consequently, it appears naturally that aerodynamic sound generation represents an enormous scientific and technological challenge.
