About Finite Element Methods

The calculation of Electro-Magnetic (EM) fields plays a major role both in Physics and in Electrical Engineering. Due to the vast number of Degres of Freedom (DoF) analytic calculations (even of simple problems) often fail to yield precise results.

In order to produce more accurate results a varitety of numerical were developed during the last century. A very efficient and precise class of Methods are the Finite Element Methods (FEM). In FEMs the physical problem is divided by a numerical mesh and calculated picewise. In the recent work a optimized Discontinous Galerkin (DG) method will be developed.
