Modeling and DNS of disperse Fluids

The term „disperse Fluid“ comprises solid particles dispersed in fluid. In general a differentiation can be made between Brownian and non-Brownian particles. The present work focuses on non-Brownian particles in shear flow.

The goal of this work is a better understanding of the behavior of particle flows. In literature the phenomenon of shear-induced diffusion has been reported which shall be regarded in the present work. There are two approaches possible – the analytical and the numerical point of view. The analytical results in this project are maintained by the so called Fokker-Planck equation. These analytical results are then planned to be substantiated and extended by direct numerical simulation with spherical particles.
