Prof. Johannes Janicka

The group is working on modeling and simulation of turbulent combustion (non-premixed, premixed, and partially premixed). A main focus is on the formulation of integrated models of gas turbine combustion and IC-Engines accounting for various physico-chemical effects, such as finite chemistry along with species formation and pollutants. This includes the modeling of turbulence and combustion by means of Large Eddy Simulation, Direct Numerical Simulation, Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes methods and Probability Density Function techniques. In particular, the research work focuses on the development of computationally inexpensive simulation tools for simulation of turbulent combustion systems and power-plant processes and various associated applications. The research involves the modeling and simulation of coupled multi-physics problems. The current strategy is based on hierarchical multi-scale modelling approaches and on the use of modern high-performance computing techniques.
